To Our Global Brothers and Sisters of ANY Religion

I realize you and I have different views on our religions. I also realize we are vastly different in our cultural, familial and community associations and ways of doing things. I understand how greatly different the world is today than when I was born some 60 years ago…some things for the worst but mostly for the better. Lately our Muslim population has had the embarrassment of groups like ISIS, Taliban and Al Qeada tarnish the world view of a most sacred religion.

I am also in complete understanding that the views and edicts most followers of Islam live by are not the same interpretations of the Koran held by the varied groups that promote violence in the name of Mohamed. In my own religious doctrine of Nordic beliefs we face similar challenges of those members who at all times follow the Nine Noble Virtues and those who disregard certain stanzas for their personal agenda.

So somewhere, between the very blurry lines of who and what “God” is we face difficult challenges that do not represent what many of us truly believe. The bottom line to me is that most Muslims, most Christians, most Ásatrú, most Hindu, most Shinto, most everyone of every different religion follows a similar, if not the same tenet as those of us at the ULC;

Do that which is Right!

“Right” is not causing others to suffer because they think different, believe different, eat sleep or live different than we do. “Right” is accepting those differences for what they are, someone else who seeks to Do that which is Right.

As a society at large it is very difficult to have this faith in strangers and people of differences. But if we allow our fears, assumptions and preconceived ideas about others forge our mindset then in essence we are no better nor different than those who would promote and carry out terrorism and intolerance against the majority of peaceful, tolerant, accepting and loving individuals most of us truly are.

And remember, there are more people reading this that “get it” than those that don’t!

Blessings of Peace,

I’ve been at my brothers for this past week and we’ve had many interesting discussions about numerous topics.

One topic being the lack of “sanity” and good in the world. Well, that’s probably because we have little patience for insanity and bad/evil. But one thing has become abundantly clear…in order for us to truly appreciate the good and sane things in this world, there must be the opposite in order to provide Contrast.

The ages old dichotomy of we must have darkness to understand light, bad to realize good etc really does make this point.

What most of us Awares see in this world is the ilk and murk because it so grates against us. It not our job to stomp out the dark and evil. If we are upset or live in despair over the wrongs of this world, create some Light! Do good for and with other folks, live free of angst and the usual drag downs, create a positive environment for ourselves, family and friends.

Create some Contrast!!

One Reason I Believe As I Do….

Its been an interesting read going through all the pro-democracy talk and enforcement of equal right s for everyone during the start of Presidential Election debates. Interesting indeed.

But beyond politics, there was another article that struck a chord with me. Part of the reason this particular article struck such a chord with me personally was having neighbors in Humboldt who attempted to have their influence and will dictated against me and my will. The whole issue was over the “Welcome” painted on stones bordering my property and a public road…clearly 10 feet inside my property line mind you.

The previous owner of the property had build a knee high stone wall along the front of my property. After spending several days cleaning debris from that area I power washed the stone and decided each top stone would be perfect for me to write “Welcome” in alternating forms of runes, German, English, Swedish and Norwegian. The local Elder of the Jehovah Witness, that lived at the end of our public road took great offense. He was convinced the wording was a “Satanic spell” meant to disrupt the usually peaceful neighborhood.

Despite numerous “No Soliciting”, “No Trespassing” and “Private Property” signs along our long driveway (my house was about 150 yards from road) the JW Elder and a following of 6-8 members showed up relentlessly for several days demanding I paint over the “spell”. He even had some deacon like person – a supposed ‘expert’ in cults- show me a book with runes depicted as “pagan cult symbols” and therefor my greeting was nothing more than “witchcraft” meant to ward off “Good Christian people”.

Long story short the sheriff got involved and let them know the law. Not only was there no threat to anyone, my stone fence was on private property…end of subject. A few days later I caught two young men, which I presumed were JW’s, painting out my greeting. Fair is fair, I had them cited for vandalism. I later found out they had been hired by the JW Elder and thought the land/fence was his. I have no idea of they took him to small claims to get their fines recovered even though I suggested they do so.

This created an uneasiness of neighbor against neighbor for months…all because of religious intolerance. But of course, only the non-religious saw it that way. For three years this issue waxed and waned until I moved to Maui. The last time I drove past the property, the entire stone fence was gone.

Let us keep religion where it belongs, in the associated houses of worship and hearts of believers…after all, isn’t that what the rest of us do with our beliefs?

Intolerance is an evil of its own making. It warps truth and distracts from intent. Many of us believe in intent being the Universal Energy that drives humanity. What is more evil than intentionally forcing someone to believe the same way you do? Not because your holy book says it’s right, or that is what your calling should be, but because the institution behind most religion claim it to be right for them, wrong for us to rebel against it.

That is human desire and coercion, not God’s or The Creator, All Father, The One, The Source…the whatever label you put on the Supreme. Allow others to believe as they will and I fairly certain they will allow you to as well.

A Few Life Lessons

These are some of the things I have learned in Life:

That I love my children without reservation

That I don’t like some of my children‘s actions and deeds, but it never stops my love for them

The failure of two marriages, unfortunately the two that brought my children into being, meant we gave up on ourselves

That I wasn’t in my children‘s lives to guide them into a more positive and productive adulthood

That running away from problems only allows those issues to grow, fester and become larger

Facing problems as they come up is far easier, far more productive, far better all concerned than running away

That I am not perfect but I’ve learned from every mistake and failure and grown into a better person from them

That regardless of what my children do, it never stops my love for them

These are a few things I know:

That my children are a capable and able person who knows right from wrong

That they have abilities and opportunities I never did

That often couples are in love with the idea of what they could have more-so than the reality of what is really there

The only reason people continue to hang on to their “ex” is that they repeatedly allow one to be irresponsible, lie and cheat without consequence

That men that go around getting women pregnant (and women who deceive men into pregnancies) in today’s world and then leave them, face fines, arrears and jail when the law catches up to them

That when a new relationship finds out about old baggage it causes more problems than any ever solved

So, as a father and grand father, this is what I’m willing to do for my children:

Step back* and walk away from the entire issue of their current life struggles and how they are, in my opinion, mishandling it. It hurts me too much to watch my own children, that know better, deliberately destroy a beautiful Life in their children because they don’t want to do what’s right. It’s their choice, not mine. No matter what, I do love my children and grandchildren and will support rightful decisions.

With that said, it doesn’t mean, and never has, that I don’t love my children and wish the very best for them. After all, you both do know right from wrong, good from bad and since you turned 18 has not been my responsibility.

Love always,

*Stepping back is often necessary in order to see the whole picture clearly, thus knowing where best to add input!

Post Cards to Thomas the Doubter

I fully well realize this does not come from any academically accepted source, however, how do we know for absolute certainty that 1.) Thomas did not have brother who knew about alternative events to those written in Genesis 5&6 2.) that Noah and family were in fact the only survivors of what may have been little more than localized event?

Read it as humor, or as sincere commentary, but just enjoy reading it!

Blessings of Peace,

From “Post Cards to Thomas the Doubter from his brother, Jay Hoevah, the other witness:

d6:21Dugg was one of the many people who knew Noah. Dugg provided for Noah during the two years and one hundred seventy four days it took him to build the Ark. Noah’s son’s helped somewhat, but Dugg was he who best provided for the master in his work.

d6:22Before the days when Noah began building the Ark under God’s command, Dugg was a farmer and also tended to a small flock of sheep. Dugg and his wife Shoval begat two sons, Spaed and Raek and two daughters Tine and Plowa. d6:23 Upon Dugg’s land were also several indentured slaves and their families. His first-freeman was Furl, who had completed his seven year servitude obligation to Dugg, but at the urging of Furl’s wife Sael, stayed upon Dugg’s land for shelter, food and safety.

d6:24 When came the day that God so let the clouds burst forth the mighty rains, Dugg had approached Noah for passage upon the Ark. “Yea, I tell you truly Dugg, YHWH has not commandeth me so that you should be among those saved by the Ark! Be well and stay dry good friend!”

d6:25 Rather than be dismayed at Noah, Dugg gathered his family and those of his slaves and all his flocks and ventured forth into the hills. Higher did they quest forth, day upon day and night upon night until at the end of 20 days did they find themselves atop the highest mountain. d6:26 The rains came down and the waters did rise until only the very top of the mountain did raise forth from the mighty waters.

d6:27 Upon the forty and first day of rain did come a sign of clear skies and rainbow didst appear and slowly did the waters recede. Many sheep had they slaughtered for sustenance and they feared they might expire before the land became dry. d6:28 So upon seeing a lone white dove pass over head did Furl take his sling and strike the fowl from the air that they might eat of it. d6:29 Several days did pass when again Furl’s sling did provide yet another dove.

d6:30 When more days had passed the whirring of the sling did sound and dove did fall into the top branches of a lone olive tree. Then had Sael almost grasped the white dove, but nay, it did regain itself and fly back whence it had come. d6:31 Upon seeing the waters had regressed greatly did they not fear as Dugg then put to knife the last two sheep and they eateth well and were sorely grateful for all God had provided.

There are some changes being made manifest at the Church of Universal Humanism and more concentration is being made toward the original concept of this outreach to the public. The title of “Reverend” will still be held for officiating purposes by “Reverend Al”, however the course of the “church” itself is going to be rededicated to its intended goal. That of the Neo-Pagan aspects of an Äsatrú-Folk community.

Therefore “Reverend Al” shall be formally recognized as the “Atwater Vitki” from this day forth and has reformulated the Church of Universal Humanism into the Äsatrú-Assembly of Universal Humanism.

The nine pointed star is created by 3 equilateral triangles, each turned 40 degrees from the others and when placed together create a Tetrahedron symbolizing:

1.   The Spirits of Odhinn, Vili and the All-Father and his brothers
2.   The Spirits of Freyr and Freyja, the gods of love, humanity and compassion
3.   The Spirit of Self, the dynamic expression of one’s ethereal Being.
(When working the Hammer Sign on one’s Self, it is done by the thumb/fist at the forehead-“Odhinn“, chin-“Vili” and solar-plexis-““, then left shoulder-“Freyr” and right shoulder-“Freyja“.)

Together the 3 equilateral triangles create the All Seeing Eye of The Creator. 3 is the sacred number of Nordic Cosmology and Nine is the High-Sacred Number being it is three times three and represents the Nine Noble Virtues of man’s pursuit. This is represented by the Triscalon, the interwoven triangle in much of Teutonic artistry.

The Nine pointed Star is a symbols of many cultures, faiths and religions, but the unique sacredness of the Triscalon times the three Self’s is what is represented in the Nordic version. The First Self is our Physical realm, Second Self is our Conscience and the Third Self is our Ethereal realm and connection to the All-Father.

We emulate the gods, never worship them. However folk approach, see, encounter, experience these Supreme Beings is personal, inviolate and inviolable, like our souls.

The Nine Pointed Star represents our Orlög, our ethereal reality manifest through the óðr, (soul) our conscious ability to control our many dimensions and facets of Self. This is the part of Self that is as ancient as the Multi-verse itself and what connects us to the cosmos.

Odhinn, Vili and Vé, brought forth the Mountains, Air, Oceans and Clouds from Ymir the cosmonic Giant when they took Ymir to the center of Gunningagap, the great void after defeating the giant. They then divided him into the earth from his skin, the clouds from his brains, the oceans from his blood and mountains and rocks came from his teeth and splinters of bones. This if course is merely representative of our connection to the cosmos in that we are indeed merely the same elements as the Stars. It is interesting to know that science has only recently (past 80 years) proven this while this sort of thinking has been held by several cultures since the dawn of mankind.

Askr and Embla, the first man and woman were also brought forth into being by the three brothers, adding to the sacred knowledge of the number three. They did this by finding two tree trunks that had fallen near the waters edge and Odhinn breathes in the breath of Life, Vili instills intelligence and movement and Vé

Through the Sagas we learn that Sky, through Lightening, became Fire through the need of Naudhaz giving us the four elements of Life’s necessity; materials of the earth, air, water and fire. The runes were given to us by Odhinn after his ordeal on the Tree of Life, Yggdrasil, upon which he hung for “nights nine and fell back roaring” with the knowledge of the rune-staves. The mysteries of these majik symbols is held by Mimir in the Well of Wyrd, where one must approach with the utmost respect and ask of The Keeper to reveal this sacred knowledge unto the individual, in whatever manner he so chooses.

I hope these changes will allow for a broader scope of Good Folk to become encouraged to join our ranks through our WordPress™ Blog here, our other internet outlets and in person should you be in the Central California area.

Circumcision, a Sign?

Directly from the King James Version of the Bible, I’d like to explore the concept behind the “Covenant” between God and His Faithful.

(Gen 17:1 KJV) And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

(Gen 17:2 KJV) And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

(Gen 17:3 KJV) And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

(Gen 17:4 KJV) As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

(Gen 17:5 KJV) Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

(Gen 17:6 KJV) And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

(Gen 17:7 KJV) And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

(Gen 17:8 KJV) And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

(Gen 17:9 KJV) And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.

(Gen 17:10 KJV) This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.

(Gen 17:11 KJV) And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.

(Gen 17:12 KJV) And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.

(Gen 17:13 KJV) He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

(Gen 17:14 KJV) And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

(Gen 17:15 KJV) And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.

(Gen 17:16 KJV) And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.

(Gen 17:17 KJV) Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

(Gen 17:18 KJV) And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!

(Gen 17:19 KJV) And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

(Gen 17:20 KJV) And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.

(Gen 17:21 KJV) But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.

(Gen 17:22 KJV) And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.

(Gen 17:23 KJV) And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as God had said unto him.

(Gen 17:24 KJV) And Abraham was ninety years old and nine, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

(Gen 17:25 KJV) And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

(Gen 17:26 KJV) In the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised, and Ishmael his son.

(Gen 17:27 KJV) And all the men of his house, born in the house, and bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised with him.

By Scripture we are told this is the “Sign of the Covenant” between God and Abraham, okay, all is well, at least according to the KJV of the Bible.

However, if my father went for a walk one day and came back to the house and gathered all the men and boys, servants, slaves and freemen and said “If you’re going to continue to stay in my house it’s going to cost the skin off the end of your manhood….” first, I’d be packing my bags, second I’d think I’d be calling the psyche ward for Pops. To have this done at eight days old is one thing, at adulthood or even 99 years, say what?

I find this to be one of the most ludicrous things about the covenant. The Foreskin, of all the parts of the body, why that?

I’ve been told it’s for hygienic reasons, I’ve been told it’s simply “God’s Word” so I don’t think anyone can say for sure, but every Christian or Jew I ever met in the locker room stood out like a sore, thumb.

If “God”, the Creator, in all his infinite wisdom and awesome power, omniscient being and so forth had one, created humans, and two, required a physical “sign” of their allegiance to Him, do you not think that could have been designed into us as a lump on our head, a third ear or other such identifiable body modification?

Oh, but one must be a Believer to have the mark of his covenant upon them!” is the first retort I’ve heard. So then newborns “Believe” at 8 days old? “Belief” has been instilled in a squirming lump of flesh that can’t even feed itself? Really?

I don’t know, but this is one of the many things in the Scripture that makes me wonder many things, but at the top of the list is the validity of such a book and it’s being the actual, unquestionable “Word of God”. As I’ve said many times, it is very likely inspired by “God” through firm Believers and thus represents the messages they have received from our Creator, but as being his word, chiseled in stone? I have to think otherwise.

In all actuality, think about it. In Genesis we are told that “God’s” creations were “good”, “right”, “beautiful” and many other descriptions of perfection, after all, “God” is omniscient and the definition of perfection, right? So by Abram, or Abraham, giving the orders of modifying “God’s creation” of man, isn’t that in essence defiling perfection?

This certainly seems more like a man made fetish than something “God” would find necessary!

Blessings of Peace,
